As well, Joel has been busy playing drums around the world with Kathleen Edwards. Paul MacLeod has been busy playing solo shows around Southwestern Ontario. Ronnie's been busy making it all look beautiful.
While Andy has been holding down the fort at MapleMusic Recordings www.maplemusicrecordings.com

We're sorting out plans for some upcoming full-band dates now and should have some announcements to make in that regard very soon. We're also hoping to have a new website up and running and possibly a new video for 'Kings' to follow-up 'Anything For You'.

Reviews for 'BITTERSWEET HARMONY' are a plenty:

As the album title suggest, the first Skydiggers studio album in six years aims to strike a balance between catchy hooks and tart sentiments. Bittersweet Harmony, delivering 14 songs into a brisk 40-minute set, gets off to a great start with "Anything For You' and "Kings," in which the Toronto quintent concocts a perfect blend of roots and rock, gingerly laced with accordion and vocal harmonies on "Fall Apart," singer/songwriters Andy Maize and Josh Finlayson throw caution to the wind, creating a collision between urgent power chords and the shrugging resignation so neatly expressed in the couplet, "I stepped out to smoke a joint/and forgot to step back in." Everything here isn't alwasy as effortless, but there is something unmistably and essentially Canadian at work in the music, even -- or maybe especially -- when the songs remind you of somebody else, like The Tragically Hip ("Horseshoe Bay") or Blue Rodeo ("Elizabeth Josephine"). A solid return.

The Toronto Star, March 13/2003.

and from the Grand Prairie Daily Herald Tribune:

It's the Skydiggers' lucky day. The release of their first studio album in five years couldn't be any better. I have absolutely nothing new to review right now, so the Torontonians get the whole 317-words to themselves. This is precisely WHY the disc is released now, and, man, it's worth every syllable.
To go into the band's history would bore you to tears and, besides, you probably know the story better than I do, after all, they've been around since 1988. 15 years is ample enough time for we lazy hacks to rehash old turf ad nauseum. You might have forgotten about them, though, given the lengthy hiatus since 2000's live release, There and Back recorded in Toronto and Edmonton. Nonetheless, their signature roots-rock is here in all its familiar glory. This is the stuff that came in second to Blue Rodeo despite being the better runners on the track. Skydiggers' style of music is so distinctly Canadian it makes you wonder why Molson isn't sponsoring their cross-Canada spring tour (or maybe they are!).
You'll recognise the oldies (Andy Maize, Josh Finlayson, and Ron Macey) and the 'newbies' (Paul MacLeod & Joel Anderson - joined in 1996) and the guest (Hawsley Workman). Combined they create a gourmet's sausage-and-mash kind of country/rock/pop that is instantly accessible and totally unpretentious. Jangling guitars, harmonies galore, and real-life lyrics make their songs resonate regardless of your preference for genres. They're a pub band, but far more stylish. They're songs you could sing around a fire, but sound better sung from a stage with an ageing, raspy voice. They're songs you could re-structure to accommodate an orchestra, but sound better as stripped down, come-as-you-are quintet pieces.
This is one of those albums that might not get a ton of air-play, but will surely have the fans drooling in sunshining bliss.
Here comes the spring. Here come the Skydiggers. Welcome back both, very much.
